Consolidated Communications' Pioneer Club awards $6,600 in scholarships

MATTOON – Eleven students from the area recently received scholarships totaling $6,600 from the Iverson A. Lumpkin Pioneer Club during a reception held at Consolidated Communications.
 
The Mattoon-based chapter of the Pioneer Club is part of the national Telecommunications Pioneers organization and includes employees and retirees of Consolidated Communications. Since 1990, the club has awarded more than $100,350 in scholarships to about 150 students.
 
Applicants must be a child or grandchild of a club member, have a 3.0 GPA and be enrolling in a two or four-year accredited college to be eligible for the scholarship.
 
The 2010 winners of the Iverson A. Lumpkin Pioneer Club scholarship include:

  • Blake Flood of Mattoon. A graduate of Mattoon Senior High School, Blake plans on attending the University of Illinois Champaign. Blake is the son of Leon and Sheri Flood.
  • Alex Williams of Mattoon. He is a graduate of Mattoon Senior High School. Alex is the son of Jerry and Renee Williams, and is a sophomore at Eastern Illinois University.
  • Dylan Strong of Mattoon. A graduate of Mattoon Senior High School, he plans to attend Lake Land College. Dylan is the son of Shelby and Thomas Strong.
  • Andrea Hussong of Mattoon. She is a graduate of Mattoon Senior High School and the daughter of Marcia and Bob Hussong. She plans to attend Lake Land College.
  • Isaac Barker of Charleston. A graduate of Charleston High School, he is the son of Brad and Cheryl Barker. Isaac plans is a sophomore at Eastern Illinois University
  • Hayley Tucker of Mattoon. A graduate of Mattoon Senior High School, Hayley is the daughter of Keith and Tonya Tucker. She plans on attending Lake Land College.
  • Trenton Kingery of Teutopolis. A graduate of Teutopolis High School, Trenton plans on attending Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He is the grandson of June and Don Krietemeyer.
  • Chelsea Smith of Shelbyville. Chelsea is a graduate of Shelbyville High School and plans to attend Lake Land College. She is the daughter of Kent and Tami Smith.
  • Kaitlyn Connerly of Effingham. A graduate of St. Anthony High School, Kaitlyn plans to attend Lake Land College. She is the daughter of Brad and Laura Connerly.
  • Kaleb Walker of Champaign. Kaleb is a graduate of Champaign Central High School and is a sophomore at the University of Illinois in Champaign. He is the grandson of Marlene Walker.
  • Myles Peralta of Springfield. A graduate of Springfield High School, Myles is the son of Steve and Julie Peralta and plans on attending Eastern Illinois University.
