Lufkin employees donate 41 pairs of shoes to Lufkin ISD

LUFKIN - Consolidated Communications employees are hoping a donation of new shoes will help make a great school year for many students. The company’s Spirit Team recently presented more than 40 pairs of shoes to the Lufkin Independent School District for students in need.

Tonja Akridge, a social worker with the Lufkin ISD, accepted the shoes from members of the Spirit Team recently.

To raise money for the donation, the Consolidated Communications Spirit Team hosted an employee breakfast and asked for donations of new shoes. A raffle also helped the group raise almost $400 to purchase additional shoes.

Penny Miller, president of the Spirit Team, thanked the Lufkin employees who helped make the shoe drive a success through shoe donations or monetary donations.   “I am so pleased we will be able to help students with this donation and proud of our employees for their generous donations,” she said.

Consolidated Communications’ Spirit Teams host quarterly events for employees and are dedicated to supporting community efforts and encouraging fellowship among employees.
