Consolidated Communications’ Pioneer Club donates to local charities


MATTOON – Consolidated Communications’ Iverson A. Lumpkin Chapter of the Independent Telecommunications Pioneers of America recently donated more than $2,400 to local community organizations and charities.

Pioneer Club President Joy Kelley said the club’s main goal is to give back to the community where the employees of Consolidated Communications live and work.

“We organize many fundraisers throughout the year so the Pioneer Club can donate to these local charities and help them serve those in need,” said Kelley. “We are excited to make these donations, and proud of our employees for supporting the Pioneer Club throughout the year.”

The club invited representatives from the organizations to a reception at the company where they received their donations. The following organizations received donations from the club:

  • Camp Care-A-Lot
  • Camp New Hope
  • Charleston Food Pantry
  • Coles County Council on Aging
  • Compassionate Friends of East Central Illinois
  • Effingham Food Pantry – Catholic Charities
  • Guiding Eyes for the Blind
  • Litchfield Food Pantry
  • Mattoon Community Food Center
  • Mattoon Police Department - Shop with a Cop
  • Mattoon Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS)
  • Nokomis Food Pantry
  • St. Vincent DePaul Society
  • Shelbyville Food Pantry

The Mattoon-based chapter of the Pioneer Club is part of the national Telecommunications Pioneers organization. Membership is open to employees and retirees of Consolidated Communications. The club also awards scholarships to the children and grandchildren of Pioneer Club members each year, and since 1990, has presented more than $100,350 in scholarships.
