Nine students receive Pioneer Club scholarships

MATTOON — Nine children of Iverson A. Lumpkin Pioneer Club members were awarded scholarships at a reception June 16 at Consolidated Communications.
 
The Pioneer Club program provides scholarships to qualified applicants. To qualify, the applicant must be a child or grandchild of a Pioneer Club member, have at least a 3.0 G.P.A. and be enrolling in a two or four-year accredited college.
 
Since 1990, the Pioneer Club has awarded more than $76,000 through 117 scholarships.
 
The 2006 Iverson A. Lumpkin Scholarship recipients include:
 
Emily Barnes of Taylorville. A 2006 graduate of Glenwood High School, Barnes will enroll at Lincoln Land Community College this fall to study elementary education. She is the daughter of Bill and Stacy Barnes.

Brett Faught of Mattoon. After graduating from Mattoon High School this spring, Faught plans to attend Illinois State University in the fall. He will major in exercise science. He is the son of Penny Faught.

Christopher Kepley of Mattoon. Following a 2006 graduation from Mattoon High School, Kepley will enroll at Lake Land College this fall to pursue a degree in law enforcement. He is the son of Gary and Jan Kepley.

Kaylee Nunamaker of Mattoon. A 2006 graduate of Mattoon High School, Nunamaker plans to attend Eastern Illinois University this fall. She will major in business. She is the daughter of June Nunamaker and L. Perry Nunamaker.

Lauren Rardin of Camargo. This fall, Rardin will begin her senior year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is pursuing a degree in accountancy. Rardin is a graduate of Oakland High School. She is the daughter of Jim and Cheryl Rardin and Mary Parkes.

Lindsey Reed of Charleston. After graduating from Charleston High School this spring, Reed will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this fall. She plans to major in kinesiology. She is the daughter of Joel and Paula Reed.

Jaclyn Rinkel of Mattoon. Following her 2006 graduation from Mattoon High School, Rinkel will enroll at Eastern Illinois University this fall. She plans to major in biological sciences. She is the daughter of Vickie Kittell and Doug Rinkel.

Jennifer Rinkel of Mattoon. A 2006 graduate of Mattoon High School, Rinkel plans to study biological sciences at Eastern Illinois University this fall. She is the daughter of Vickie Kittell and Doug Rinkel.

Travis Wilcoxen of Humboldt. A 2005 graduate of Mattoon High School, Wilcoxen currently attends Lake Land Community College. He is pursuing a degree in criminal law. He is the son of Joe and Twilla Wilcoxen.

The Pioneer Club was established by employees of Consolidated Communications in 1969 as a part of the national Independent Telephone Pioneers Association.
