Lumpkin honored with ITA’s Telephone Person of Distinction Award
MATTOON – Richard Lumpkin, chairman of Consolidated Communications,
recently received the Illinois Telecommunications Association’s (ITA) Telephone Person
of Distinction Award. The award was presented at the ITA’s recent convention, marking
the 100
th
anniversary of the association.
Lumpkin was chosen for the award because of his many years of outstanding
contributions to Consolidated Communications and his contributions to the
telecommunications industry in general. He served as president of the ITA from 1980-
1981.
His father, Richard A. Lumpkin was the first recipient of the Telephone Person of
Distinction Award in 1970. He served as the president of the ITA in the 1930s.
The mission of the ITA is to create a forum for its members to identify and to
examine issues of importance; to foster collaboration among its members; and to present
on behalf of the telecommunications industry a unified position on matters of importance
before the regulatory and legislative bodies of Illinois.
