Syndicated Radio Personality to Serve as SOFF Special Guest

September 3, 2014 – Consolidated Communications recently announced that Shanon Murphy, part of The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show, will be the 2014 Special Guest at the Special Olympics Family Festival on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Murphy is a producer of the top-rated syndicated radio program that can be heard locally on 104.3 The Party. The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show is based in Dallas, Texas, and heard across the country in more than 70 markets. The Kidd Kraddick cast is also part of Dish Nation, a daily television program highlighting the nation’s funniest radio shows.

Celeste Webb, SOFF Committee chairperson, said as the SOFF Special Guest, Murphy will be a part of the event’s Opening Ceremony and will be available during the event to meet Athletes and volunteers and sign autographs.

“We’re so excited to have Shanon come to Mattoon to be a part of this special day and I’m positive our Athletes will be too,” Webb said, adding that Murphy showed her commitment to the Special Olympics organization as the emcee of the Special Olympics Polar Plunge fundraising event in Effingham in March. “I am so pleased Shanon is able to return to the area to be a part of this awesome day for the hundreds of Athletes who participate in our festival.”

Unlike traditional Special Olympic games, SOFF is a non-competitive event centered on games and activities in a carnival-type atmosphere for pre-registered Special Olympic Athletes from Regions 8, 9, 10 and 17.

The festival is not open to the public. Only those who register as a volunteer can participate, and all volunteers must be 16 or older. SOFF is also a non-smoking event.

Local residents who are interested in signing up as a SOFF volunteer can go to the company’s Web site at www.consolidated.com and download a registration form by clicking on About Us, Community Involvement, SOFF. Forms are also available for pick up at our local Communication Center at 1321 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon. To request a registration form, email SOFF@consolidated.com or call 800-434-SOFF. You can also learn more about SOFF and watch a video on Facebook at Special Olympics Family Festival.

SOFF was founded by Consolidated Communications in 1984, and continues to be sponsored and organized by its employees along with representatives from Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust.
