Consolidated Communications' Pioneer Club Awards $7,800 in scholarships

July 1, 2014 – Twelve students recently received scholarships totaling $7,800 from the Iverson A. Lumpkin Pioneer Club during a recent reception at Consolidated Communications.

The 2014 Pioneer Club Scholarship recipients include: Amanda Kriesel, Megan Rardin, Megan Moran, Emma Diltz, Rebecca Polston, Luke Miller, Brooke Beliz, Tyler Romack, Cheyenne Neal, Dylan Wolf and Nick Polston. Missing from the photo was Brittany Fonner.


The Mattoon-based chapter of the Pioneer Club is part of the national Telecommunications Pioneers organization and includes employees and retirees of Consolidated Communications. With this year’s award, the club has awarded more than $121,000 through more than 180 scholarships since 1990.

Applicants must be a child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a club member, have a 3.0 GPA and be enrolling in a two or four-year accredited college to be eligible for the scholarship.

The 2014 recipients of the Iverson A. Lumpkin Pioneer Club scholarship include:
 

  • Amanda Kriesel, daughter of Don and June Kriesel, is a 2014 graduate of Mattoon High School planning on attending Lake Land College majoring in nursing.
  • Luke Miller, son of Morris and Katie Miller, is a 2014 graduate of Mattoon High School planning on attending Lake Land College majoring in business.
  • Cheyenne Neal, daughter of Michelle and Tom Neal and granddaughter of Max and Theresa Swango, is a 2012 graduate of Charleston High School who is planning on attending the University of Illinois majoring in Food Science.
  • Rebecca Polston, daughter of Troy and Renee Polston, is a junior at Eastern Illinois University majoring in Special Education.
  • Megan Moran, daughter of Tom and Amy Moran, is a 2014 graduate of Neoga High School who plans to attend Eastern Illinois University majoring in Communication Disorders & Sciences.
  • Tyler Romack, son of Matt and Shelly Romack, is a 2014 graduate of Neoga High School. He plans to attend Lincoln Land Community College majoring in Business/Criminal Justice.
  • Emma Diltz, daughter of Lee and Laura Diltz, is a 2014 Mattoon High School graduate who will be attending the University of Missouri majoring in Journalism/Business.
  • Dylan Wolf, son of Jim and Michelle Wolf, is a 2014 graduate from Mattoon High School. He plans to attend Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville majoring in Pre-Med/Biology.
  • Nick Polston, son of Troy and Renee Polston, is a 2014 graduate of Mattoon High School and will be attending Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville majoring in Exercise Science.
  • Megan Rardin, daughter of Jim and Cheryl Rardin, is a 2014 graduate of Mattoon High School and will attend Purdue University majoring in Pre-Pharmacy.
  • Brooke Beliz, daughter of Besente and Barbara Beliz graduated from Mattoon High School in 2014 and attend Lake Land College majoring in Veterinary Science.
  • Brittany Fonner, daughter of Mack and Gina Fonner, graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2014.
