Consolidated Communications Awards Grant to St. Mary's School

July 30, 2012 - Consolidated Communications recently awarded a $200 grant to Taylorville’s St. Mary School to help purchase new equipment.

Principal Cathy Robertson said the school is seeing increased enrollment, and a second kindergarten class will open with the 2012-2013 school year. As a result, an additional computer system is needed, she said. Most of the school’s textbooks have an online learning component, and computers in the classroom are a necessity.

“We are very grateful to have received this grant from Consolidated Communications,” Robertson said. “A computer system for that classroom was a high priority purchase and the grant money received from the Earning For Learning program will assist with the cost.”

“We’re happy to provide some funding for St. Mary School to purchase a new computer,” said Laura ZuHone, of Consolidated Communications. “Our Earning for Learning grants are designed to support education in the communities we serve, and this will help the school integrate technologies into the classroom.”

The EFL program has donated more than $3 million to local schools to use for teacher grants, computer and software purchase and other items and projects not included in typical school budgets. Participating schools are invited to submit a grant application to request funds for a specific financial need. Grants are approved based on the description of need and funds available at the time of the request.
