District to Purchase Laptop With EFL Grant From Consolidated Communications

March 28, 2012 - Consolidated Communications recently awarded an $800 grant to the Stewardson-Strasburg CUSD 5A from the company’s Earning for Learning (EFL) program for a laptop computer and software.

The grant will aid the district in its mission to improve student achievement and will be used as Principal Mark Giertz’s “In-class Super Tool.” The computer and software will be used to upload every student’s longitudinal achievement data and the new State of Illinois Teacher Evaluation Plan in order to effectively track every detail of the school’s Improvement Planning Process for every student and every teacher, said Superintendent Steve Harsy.

“On behalf of Mr. Giertz and the students and staff of Stewardson-Strasburg CUSD, we want to thank Consolidated Communications for making this grant available,” said Harsy.

“We’re pleased to be able to support the Stewardson-Strasburg CUSD with this grant to purchase new technology,” said Laura ZuHone, of Consolidated Communications. “Our Earning for Learning grants are designed to support education in the communities we serve, and we appreciate the district letting us know of this need.”

The EFL program has donated more than $3 million to local schools to use for teacher grants, computer and software purchase and other items and projects not included in typical school budgets. Participating schools are invited to submit a grant application to request funds for a specific financial need. Grants are approved based on the description of need and funds available at the time of the request.
