Consolidated Communications Awards EFL Grants to Arcola Teachers

October 11, 2013 – Consolidated Communications recently awarded a two Earning for Learning grants to Arcola teachers Jenni Butler and Jana Nacke.

Nacke submitted the grant proposal through Consolidated’s Earning for Learning (EFL) program to purchase several storytelling kits for use by fifth and sixth grade students to practice fluency skills while reading aloud to younger grades. She received a check for $907 from the program.

“Having the puppets, flannel boards and items that go along with the stories being read out loud will help keep the attention of the younger students as well as improve comprehension. I am grateful to Consolidated Communications for the grant allowing me to purchase these items to service a wide range of students in a variety of ways,” Nacke said.

Butler, a second grade teacher, received a grant for $400 to purchase an iPad 2 for her classroom. She said the technology will allow her to customize lessons for each small group learning level in both reading and math.

Sarah Greider of Consolidated Communications made donation and said she’s glad to see teachers excited about the EFL program and putting the funds to use in our schools.  “Our Earning for Learning grants are designed to support education in the communities we serve, and we’re pleased to help these teachers add new tools for their students,” Greider said.

The EFL program has donated more than $3.2 million to local schools to use for teacher grants, computer and software purchase and other items and projects not included in typical school budgets. Participating schools are invited to submit a grant application to request funds for a specific financial need. Grants are approved based on the description of need and funds available at the time of the request.
