Consolidated Communications Enhances and Upgrades its Florida Network and Infrastructure

New equipment and services offer customers increased broadband speeds and greater reliability

PORT ST. JOE, Fla. June 17, 2019Consolidated Communications, Inc., (NASDAQ: CNSL), a leading broadband and business communications provider, today announced it is significantly upgrading its infrastructure and equipment across five Florida counties.

As many residents across the Panhandle continue to rebuild following Hurricane Michael, Consolidated is managing restoration and rebuilding efforts with a focus on providing customers an upgraded network and equipment with faster broadband speeds.

In addition to building out nearly 100,000 feet of new aerial cable, electronics have been upgraded to newer platforms that utilize the latest technologies and offer faster speeds, increased network capacity and other enhanced features for customers.

To enhance sustainability in all weather conditions, underground equipment was bonded and grounded and protective gel-filled connectors were added. New equipment is also being installed to provide technicians real-time visibility into the heath and status of the network.

“The upgrades we’ve made in our Florida service area will add significant redundancy and reliability as well as faster broadband speeds for our customers,” said Tom White, chief technology officer at Consolidated Communications.

In Mexico Beach, Fla., one of the areas hardest hit by the storm where all physical plant and infrastructure was destroyed, Consolidated’s rebuild will include the completion of a Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to over 600 residences.

Fiber Internet services offer significantly faster, highly reliable, broadband connectivity that gives customers symmetrical speeds and the ability to connect multiple devices without sacrificing speed. Fiber also supports gaming and uploading photos with virtually no buffering or waiting.  Customers will benefit from a significant increase in the availability of speeds up to 1 Gig, as well, providing enhanced on-demand capabilities.
