Wireless Set-Up and Security for Zhone Modems

Before you begin setting up your Consolidated Communications Internet account, please have your Internet Access Information sheet in front of you. Please contact our Internet Help Desk if you have any questions.

Wireless Security for the Zhone Modem/Router

(Port 4 on your wireless modem/router is disabled and is not for Internet use.)
*Warning: Follow these instructions on a Computer that is WIRED to the High-Speed Internet Router.

Step/Action:

1. Click on Internet Explorer , Firefox , or Safari .

2. In the Address or Location bar type http://192.168.1.1 and click the Go button or hit the enter key on your keyboard.

3. After clicking the go button/enter key you will be prompted for a user name and password. Please type the following:

User name: admin
Password: cciadmin

4. Using the menu system on the left, click on the plus sign next to Wireless to expand the menu.

- Then select Basic. Put a check next to Enable Wireless do NOT enable Hide Access Point.
- For the SSID type a name for your wireless network and write it down for reference.
- Click the Save/Apply button when done.

5. Using the menu system on the left, select Security.

- You should now see a similar page to the picture below. In the next step we will be changing the selection box next to Network Authentication.

6. To use WPA-PSK:

- Change the Network Authentication to WPA-PSK.
- For the WPA Pre-Shared Key enter in a password that you will remember and write it down for reference.
- Click the Save/Apply button.

Now that the High-Speed Internet Router is set-up with wireless we need to connect the wireless devices.

Connecting to Wireless Network for Windows 7

1. In the bottom right corner of your screen near the clock you will see an icon that looks like a computer or this Click on this icon once with the left mouse button to pop up a list of available wireless networks.

 

2. In the list of available wireless networks that popped up, select your wireless network. Now click the Connect button.

3. In the text box labeled Security key, type the pass-phrase(password) that you configured the High-Speed Internet Modem/Router with.

- Click the OK button.

4. In the confirmation window be sure that there are check marks next to the options for Save this network and Start this connection automatically.

- Click the Close button.
*If you get a prompt for why type of network you are connecting to you will be given 3 options, Home, Work and Public. A typical user can select either Work or Public.

5. After a minute or so your computer should connect to the wireless network. If for some reason it does not connect you may want to try to connect again making sure you are using the correct password. You can also try restarting your computer.

- You can now open Internet Explorer  or Firefox  and you should be on the Internet.
- Please repeat these steps for all Windows 7 computers you want connected wirelessly.

Connecting to Wireless Network for Windows Vista

1. Click on the Start button and select Connect To.

 

2.In the Connect to a Network window, select your wireless network.

- Click the Connect button in the bottom right corner of the window.

3. In the text box labeled Security key, type the pass-phrase(password) that you configured the High-Speed Internet Modem/Router with.

- Click the OK button.

4. In the confirmation window be sure that there are check marks next to the options for Save this network and Start this connection automatically.

- Click the Close button.

Connecting to Wireless Network for Windows XP

1. In the bottom right corner of your screen, near the clock, you will see an icon that looks like this . Right click on this and select View available wireless networks

 

2. In the Wireless Network Connection window, select your wireless network.

Click the Connect button in the bottom right corner of the window.

3. In the text box labeled Security key, type the pass-phrase(password) you configured the High-Speed Internet Modem/Router with.

- Click the OK button.
- When it has connected you may close the wireless network list window.

4. After a minute or so your computer should connect to the wireless network. If for some reason it does not connect you may want to try to connect again making sure you are using the correct password. You can also try restarting your computer.

- You can now open Internet Explorer  or Firefox  and you should be on the Internet.
- Please repeat these steps for all Windows XP computers you want connected wirelessly.
