We are closely monitoring the winter storm systems, which may impact some customers over the next few days. In the event of high winds, heavy snow, ice, or other storm-related effects, we are fully prepared to take the necessary actions to keep you connected and informed. The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority.

In some cases, severe storms or power outages can cause equipment in your home to perform poorly. If your power is on but your internet service is not working, you may need to reboot your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and router to help restore your internet service:


Step 1: Locate your ONT

The ONT is commonly located next to your utility panel or your Gateway. It’s important not to tamper with the fiber optic cable. Only use the reset button if directed by Fidium CCI Support. 

Step 2: Reboot your ONT

Turn off the device using the power button. Unplug the power cable for 15 seconds. Then, plug it back in and turn it back on. Once booted up, the lights on the front will indicate network search and device communication. 

Step 3: Locate your Gateway

Your Gateway is commonly found near the entry point of the cable from the outside of your home or near a wired device, like a smart TV. 

Step 4: Reboot your Gateway

Locate the power cord at the back of the device. Simply unplug it to begin the reboot process. Wait at least 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Only use the reset button if directed by Fidium CCI Support. Look for the setup light to flash blue as it boots up. After start-up, the blue light will go out. You might also see a temporary green light indicating network connection and updates. This process may take up to 15 minutes. Once the front light remains off, your gateway is ready to use. 

Step 5: Check network connections

After rebooting your devices, ensure that all ethernet connections are secure. Check both ends of each cable to confirm they are firmly in place.

  • Taking inventory of supplies needed for plant and network restoration and supplementing where necessary.
  • Placing emergency network supplies throughout company facilities.
  • Double-checking all safety equipment and supplies are in place.

In wildfire-prone areas, some additional precautions Consolidated takes to protect its fiber network include:

  • Regularly trimming weeds and clearing brush away from all equipment sites.
  • Checking fiber lines for potential heat and fire risks.
  • Removing vegetation in vehicle parking areas to avoid possible combustion from exhaust systems.

If an emergency or crisis does impact service, Consolidated Communications will initiate its Emergency Operations Center to support first responders, as the top priority, and take care of customers’ needs and any service issues as soon as it’s deemed safe for our teams.

How You Can Prepare for Severe Weather and Natural Disasters

  • Have a plan – where will you take shelter in your home? What number will you call in the event of an emergency?  Where will you meet if something happens while everyone is not at home?
  • Put together an emergency kit that includes water, canned or non-perishable food items, a can opener, a flashlight, a battery-powered radio, extra batteries, dust masks, a whistle and first-aid supplies.
  • Be sure your cell phone is charged and consider investing in a portable charger.
  • Store important documents in a fire and waterproof case.
  • Consider flood insurance if you live in flood-prone areas.
