Is your internet down after a storm?
In some cases, severe storms or power outages can cause equipment in your home to perform poorly. If your power is on but your internet service is not working, you may need to reboot your modem and router to help restore your internet service.
Do you have power?
If power is off: Call your local utility company.
If power is on and service hasn't returned: Go to step 2.
Locate your modem or network terminal
Your modem, gateway, or network terminal is commonly located next to your utility panel or near where the service line enters your home. Do not tamper with the service line. Only use the reset button if directed by Consolidated Communications support.
Reboot your modem or network terminal
Turn off the device using the power button. Unplug the power cable for 15 seconds. Then, plug it back in and turn it back on. Once booted up, the lights on the front will indicate network search and device communication.
Locate your router or gateway
Your router or gateway is commonly found near the entry point of the service line from the outside of your home or near a wired device, like a smart TV. If your modem and router are a single combined device, you can skip this step.
Reboot your router or gateway
Locate the power cord at the back of the device. Simply unplug it to begin the reboot process. Wait at least 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Only use the reset button if directed by Consolidated Communications support. After rebooting, allow up to 15 minutes for the device to fully reconnect to the network.
Check network connections
After rebooting your devices, ensure that all ethernet and coaxial connections are secure. Check both ends of each cable to confirm they are firmly in place.

Have a plan
Where will you take shelter in your home? What number will you call in the event of an emergency? Where will you meet if something happens while everyone is not at home?
Emergency kit
Your emergency kit should include water, canned or non-perishable food items, a can opener, a flashlight, a battery-powered radio, extra batteries, dust masks, a whistle, and first-aid supplies.
Cell phone charged
Be sure your cell phone is charged and consider investing in a portable charger.
Important documents & insurance
Store important documents in a fire and waterproof case. Consider flood insurance if you live in flood-prone areas.
