June 14, 2013 - Twelve students recently received scholarships totaling $7,800 from the Iverson A. Lumpkin Pioneer Club during a reception at Consolidated Communications on June 5.
The Mattoon-based chapter of the Pioneer Club is part of the national Telecommunications Pioneers organization and includes employees and retirees of Consolidated Communications. With this year’s award, the club has awarded more than $113,750 through 170 scholarships since 1990.
Applicants must be a child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a club member, have a 3.0 GPA and be enrolling in a two or four-year accredited college to be eligible for the scholarship.
The 2013 recipients of the Iverson A. Lumpkin Pioneer Club scholarship include:
- Noah Creed, son of Mark and Jodi Creed, is a 2013 graduate of Mattoon High School who will be attending Lake Land College. He was sponsored by his grandfather retiree Bobby Barnd.
- Allie Diltz, daughter of Lee and Laura Diltz, is a 2013 graduate of Mattoon High School who will be attending Lake Land College. She was sponsored by her mother.
- Nichole Fonner, daughter of Mack and Gina Fonner, will be a senior Education major at EIU. She was sponsored by her mother.
- Lindsey Glosser, daughter of Michele Bridges and Ken Glosser, is a 2013 graduate of Windsor High School who will be attending SIU at Carbondale. She was sponsored by other mother.
- Jazmin Katz, daughter of Jennifer Katz-Madsen and John Madsen and Aaron Katz, is a 2013 graduate of Mattoon High School who will be attending SIU at Edwardsville. She was sponsored by her grandmother, Karen Breams.
- Jamie Packer, daughter of Brian and Christa Packer, is 2013 graduate of Mattoon High School who will be attending the U of I at Springfield. She was sponsored by her mother.
- McKenzie Redfern, daughter of T.G. and Dawn Redfern, and April Spence is a 2013 graduate of St. Joseph Ogden High School who will be attending Parkland College. She was sponsored by her stepmother.
- Anna Savoie, daughter of Bud and Tammy Munyon, is 2013 graduate of Mattoon High School who wil be attending Lake Land College. She was sponsored by her stepfather.
- Kayli Seaman, daughter of Kelly and Jane Seaman, is 2013 graduate of Arcola High School who will be attending SIU at Edwardsville. She was sponsored by her mother.
- Hannah Walker, daughter of Jay and Joy Walker, is a 2013 graduate of Champaign Central High School and will be attending Parkland College. She was sponsored by her grandmother, Marlene Walker.
- Michael White, son of Mary Beth White, is a 2013 graduate of Mattoon High School who will be attending Lake Land College. He was sponsored by his grandfather Jim Richter.
- Caroline ZuHone, daughter of Doug and Laura ZuHone, is a 2013 graduate of Mattoon High School who will be attending Butler University. She was sponsored by her mother.
