Consolidated Communicaitons Awards Grant To Shelbyville Schools for Classroom Upgrades

MATTOON – Consolidated Communications recently awarded a grant for $2,000 to the Shelbyville Community Unit School District for new technology in classrooms.

Superintendent Denise Bence submitted the grant proposal to help fund the district’s plan to transform two 3rd grade classrooms with the purchase of 17 mini iPads. “Students will be using the iPads to access a multitude of applications that will put active, self-directed learning at their fingertips,” she explained. The students plan to share what they are learning through a classroom blog and Twitter account.”

Sarah Greider of Consolidated Communications made donation and said she’s glad to see teachers excited about the EFL program and putting the funds to use in our schools.  “Our Earning for Learning grants are designed to support education in the communities we serve, and we’re pleased to award this grant to Shelbyville schools to add new tools to these classrooms,” Greider said.

The EFL program has donated more than $3.2 million to local schools to use for teacher grants, computer and software purchase and other items and projects not included in typical school budgets. Participating schools are invited to submit a grant application to request funds for a specific financial need. Grants are approved based on the description of need and funds available at the time of the request.
