Alto High School digital communications program receives grant from Consolidated Communications

The company’s educational grant program providing support for expansion school’s digital communications program

Alto, Texas – Oct. 17, 2023 – Alto High School was recently awarded a $5,000 grant for expansion of its digital communications program from Consolidated Communication’s Consolidated Connects Educational Grant Program. The program directs support to K-12 schools within the company’s service area in support of innovative, technology-focused learning programs that advance creative student learning, develop 21st century skills and promote critical thinking.

Grant funding will support the digital communications program at Alto High School, which explores the occupations and educational opportunities associated with the production of audio and visual media. This program of study also includes exploration into operating machines and equipment to record sound and images, such as microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, sound and mixing boards, and related electronic equipment.

“Alto ISD is thankful for Consolidated Communications’ support of our Career and Technical Education department”, said Amber Middleton, special programs director for Alto High School. “This grant will allow our Audio/Video Technology students to pursue certification as Adobe Certified Professionals in Digital Video Using Adobe Premiere Pro and will allow the district to purchase additional equipment for the program. The students were so excited to learn that we were selected to receive the grant! They have already collaborated with their teachers and administrators to construct a wish list of equipment that will give them more hands-on experience and help them create higher-quality productions.”

Alto ISD began offering the first two courses in the Digital Communications program during the 2022-2023 school year. With the support of grant funding, the district plans to expand course offerings to include a Level 3 course, Audio/Video Production II, which will provide further opportunities for students, including project-based learning and the ability to earn industry-recognized certifications.

“Consolidated Communications is proud to support such an enriching program for local students at Alto High School to gain hands on skills and real-world experiences,” said Gabe Waggoner, executive vice president of operations for Consolidated. “Just as we invest in our local broadband networks, our Consolidated Connects Educational Grant Program is another investment in the youth in our communities. We are committed to making our communities stronger through support of education programs like this, which help students learn, grow and thrive.”
