Working Moms Will Relate to Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Veep

As usual, HBO and HBO GO have some of the best TV shows starring some of TV’s most beloved stars. Veep is a political satire entering its sixth and final season where viewers watch Seinfeld alum Julia Louis-Dreyfus play political powerhouse, Selina Meyer.

With Louis-Dreyfus playing a charismatic leader who struggles to juggle her work and personal life, this comedy series may be one of the best HBO has to offer. The utterly relatable Selina Meyer — a boss, a mom, a wife, and ex-wife — is reason enough to start season one of Veep right now or continue the laughs with season six.

Travel Back in Time With This Medical Drama

Cinemax has made a comeback with high-quality original programming like The Knick. Thought to be ending after two dramatic seasons, this Steven Soderbergh-directed series may stick around yet another season and is worthy of a whole weekend of binge-watching.

Taking place in the early twentieth century at a hospital known as “The Knick,” Dr. John Thackery, played by the remarkable Clive Owen, is a surgeon at a time when medical understanding was limited at best. Viewers follow hospital administration, nurses, social workers, and ambulance drivers as they work hard for a paycheck while trying to stay sane.

The Gallaghers Are Still Shameless

Showtime and Showtime Anytime are filled with amazing dramas and comedies. Shameless is coming up on the end of season nine as audiences watch the Gallaghers try to keep it together despite bad parenting, no parenting, joblessness, alcohol and drug addictions, and more. There is a reason this show, a blend of earnest drama and ridiculous hilarity, has lasted nearly a decade on American TV screens. Although sometimes outlandish, the Gallaghers are nothing if not relatable.

Discover High-Quality Fantasy on Starz

American Gods on Starz has just started the second season of its fantastical tale. Based on the book by Neil Gaiman, this star-studded show is filled with mythical creatures, gods, and mystery. The main character, Shadow Moon, played by the incomparable Ricky Whittle, takes a job as a bodyguard for Mr. Wednesday. That’s only the beginning of a strange and whimsical story guaranteed to thrill.

Find Out-of-This-World, Relatable Sci-Fi on Fox

You don’t have to pay for premium channels to find the best shows around this season. Sci-Fi lovers everywhere won’t want to miss The Orville, starring Seth McFarlane. McFarlane, who is also the show’s creator and one of several prestigious executive producers, stars as Ed Mercer, captain of the exploratory space vessel USS Orville.

Four hundred years in the future, the ship’s crew struggles with many of the same challenges we face today, including relationship problems, alcoholism, and imposter syndrome. These are all heavy issues, but The Orville’s offbeat humor helps keep the show as lighthearted as it is provocative.
