Consolidated Communications Warns Against Providing Personal Information

March 3, 2012 - Consolidated Communications is reminding its customers to not respond to requests asking for personal information over the phone or through email.

If you receive a suspicious phone call from someone saying they are with Consolidated Communications, do not provide any information. Tell the caller you know it is a scam and hang up. Report the call by visiting the Internet Crime Complaint Center Web site at www.ic3.gov. 
Customers who encounter a suspicious email or website claiming an affiliation with Consolidated Communications should report the information by forwarding it to: abuse@consolidated.net. Within its network support team, Consolidated Communications has technical staff with expertise in investigating Internet abuse.

These scams are a form of fraud referred to as “phishing.” Phishing is the fraudulent process of attempting to acquire personal information such as user names, passwords and credit card details by posing as a trusted company or organization.
