Consolidated Communications Completes Purchase of Surewest Communications

July 2, 2012 - Consolidated Communications announced today it completed the purchase of SureWest Communications on Tuesday, July 2.

Consolidated Communications announced in February that it would acquire the California-based company and its approximately 267,000 residential connections and 16,000 business subscribers in Northern California and Kansas City. SureWest Communications and Consolidated Communications shareholders voted in favor of the acquisition on June 12.

SureWest Communications offers bundled residential and commercial services in greater Roseville, Calif., Sacramento, Calif. and Kansas City regions that include IP-based digital and high-definition television, high-speed Internet, Voice over IP and local and long distance telephone.  

Consolidated Communications President and CEO Bob Currey said the acquisition complements Consolidated’s operations in Illinois, Texas and Pennsylvania and allows the company to leverage its assets and enhance the telecommunications offerings in the company’s service area. “SureWest Communications has built one of the highest quality networks in the industry and is a leading broadband provider. This acquisition strengthens Consolidated Communications, and we remain committed to providing high levels of service and innovative products to our customers in all markets we serve,” Currey said.

Consolidated Communications is headquartered in Mattoon, Illinois and now employs some 1,700 people in Illinois, Texas, Pennsylvania, California, Missouri and Kansas.
