Nokomis Schools Receive Grant From Consolidated Communications' EFL Program

March 8, 2012 - Consolidated Communications recently awarded a $400 grant to the Nokomis Community Unit School District #22 from the company’s Earning for Learning (EFL) program.

The grant will enable the district to purchase a touch screen monitor for the junior high/high school cafeteria to work in conjunction with the district’s new student information software. The software allows parents additional access to teacher lesson plans, student grades, attendance rates and lunch account activity. The new monitor will allow the cafeteria cashier to enter codes into the software for quicker parental access.

“We’re pleased to be able to support the Nokomis district with this project to increase parental involvement through new technology,” said Laura ZuHone, of Consolidated Communications. “Our Earning for Learning grants are designed to support education in the communities we serve, and we feel this donation will help in that endeavor.”

“We appreciate the continued service and dedication Consolidated Communications has provided the district in our effort to provide a quality program to all students and parent,” said Dr. Scott E. Doerr, Superintendent of Schools at Nokomis CUSD #22.  “This grant will allow us to streamline the process of and maintain accountability between the school, our students and their parents.”

The EFL program has donated more than $3 million to local schools to use for teacher grants, computer and software purchase and other items and projects not included in typical school budgets. Participating schools are invited to submit a grant application to request funds for a specific financial need. Grants are approved based on the description of need and funds available at the time of the request.
