Consolidated Communications' EFL Program Gives $6,000 Grant to Mattoon Schools

August 29, 2013 - Consolidated Communications recently awarded a $6,000 grant to the Mattoon Foundation for Academic Excellence Fund, a component fund of the Mattoon Area community foundation, from the company’s Earning For Learning program.

Mattoon Foundation for Academic Excellence Fund is committed to promoting, enhancing and assisting in funding projects, capital expenditures or other creative ideas that support, encourage and promote academic excellence for students of Community Unit District No. 2. Read Along Listening Centers, ADA compliant wheelchair and ACT/PSAE practice guides are examples of past grants made from this fund.

Sarah Greider of Consolidated Communications said Mattoon schools and the foundation have received more than $550,000 from the EFL program since 1993. “Our Earning for Learning grants are designed to support education in the communities we serve, and we are pleased to continue this tradition of helping our local schools,” Greider said.

The EFL program has donated more than $3 million to local schools to use for teacher grants, computer and software purchase and other items and projects not included in typical school budgets. Participating schools are invited to submit a grant application to request funds for a specific financial need. Grants are approved based on the description of need and funds available at the time of the request.
