MATTOON, Ill. – Sept. 14, 2021 – The 38th annual Special Olympics Family Festival (SOFF) virtual event video, featuring a trip to Aikman Wildlife Adventure in Arcola, will be available on Saturday, Sept. 18, for Special Olympics athletes, past volunteers and the general public to join in the fun.

Featuring a SOFF on Safari theme, the event video brings together past SOFF friends and new ones for a trip to the wildlife sanctuary with a special appearance by Illinois State Police Statewide Social Media Coordinator, Trooper Tracy Lillard.

SOFF is a unique event created by Consolidated Communications that annually brings together more than 600 Special Olympics athletes and 1,200 volunteers for a day of games and activities. Out of an abundance of caution for athletes, volunteers and supporters, the event will be held virtually again this year.

The link for the virtual event will be open to everyone. The video link will be available on Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. on the following sites:

“We’ve gathered our favorite SOFF guests and some new ones this year for our SOFFari and I’m excited for everyone to join experience our virtual event,” said Tracy Davis-Green, 2021 SOFF chairperson. “While we are unable to gather in person, we feel strongly about providing a special virtual event that our athletes, our committed volunteers and our supporters could experience online. We are steadfast in our commitment to providing a fun day of activities for Special Olympics Athletes and hope to be in-person next year.”

More than 600 athletes registered for the event and will be receiving a gift bag of items similar to what they would get at the live event. In addition, there are some surprises in store to ensure an exciting virtual experience.

SOFF is organized by a committee of employees from Consolidated Communications, along with representatives from Special Olympics Illinois, Lake Land College, First Mid Bank & Trust and Sarah Bush Lincoln.

Consolidated Communications hosted the first SOFF event in 1984 and is committed to continuing the annual festival on the grounds of Lake Land College when it is safe for all involved. For more information on SOFF visit consolidated.com/SOFF.
