Volunteer Registration Open for Special Olympics Family Festival

1,200 Volunteers needed for 35th annual festival on September 15

MATTOON, Ill.  - July 23, 2018 Consolidated Communications is encouraging area residents and students to register as a volunteer for the upcoming (SOFF) to be held Saturday, Sept. 15, on the grounds of Lake Land College in Mattoon, Ill. More than 1,200 general event and Friend-For-A-Day volunteers are needed to make the day a success for some 700 Special Olympics athletes from central Illinois.

SOFF features non-competitive games and activities in a carnival-like atmosphere for athletes from multiple counties in central Illinois.

“Our biggest volunteer need is also one of the most rewarding experiences at SOFF,” said Amanda VanScyoc, 2018 SOFF chairperson. “Our Friend-For-A-Day volunteers have phenomenal experiences as they partner with an athlete and just have fun participating in activities throughout the day. SOFF provides volunteers the opportunity to be a part of an amazing experience while also giving back to the community.”

General SOFF volunteers must be 15 years of age or older and Friend-For-A-Day volunteers must be16 or older. General volunteer tasks include: serving lunch, working in game areas and assisting with registration and other activities.

SOFF is a non-smoking event and is only open to registered volunteers and athletes and their family members. Visit consolidated.com/SOFFVolunteer to learn more about volunteering, register to help and watch two videos highlighting volunteer opportunities.  Learn more about the event by visiting our website at consolidated.com/SOFF. Volunteers can also call 800.434.SOFF or email soff@consolidated.com for more information.

SOFF was founded by Consolidated Communications in 1984, and is organized by its employees along with representatives from partner companies Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and First Mid Bank & Trust.
