Installing the Filters
Step 1:
Unplug everything plugged into a telephone jack on the walls. This includes telephones, fax machines, and satellite receivers, etc.
Only the device connected to the telephone jack on the wall needs to be unplugged. For example if you had a phone that plugged into an answering machine that plugs into the telephone wall jack, you would only need to unplug the answering machine from the telephone jack on the wall.
Step 2:
Each device you unplugged will need to be plugged into a filter provided with your High-Speed Internet kit. If you do not have enough filters you can call us at anytime to request more. The following (A and B) will describe how to install each type of filter.
A.) The first type of filter is referred to as an Inline filter. Use the following instructions to install them.
- Plug the LINE end of the filter into the telephone jack on the wall.
- Plug the phone or device into the PHONE port on the filter.
- Repeat this procedure for every device you need plugged into an inline filter.
B.) The second type of filter is referred to as a Wall Mount filter. Please follow these steps for its installation:
- Extend the clips at the top and bottom of the filter and plug the LINE end of the filter into the telephone jack on the wall. Fit the filter on top of the wall jack and lock the clips into place by pushing them in.
- Plug the phone or device into the PHONE port of the face of the filter.
- Mount the phone onto the hooks of the filter.
- Repeat this procedure for every device connected to a phone jack at your residence.

Connecting the High-Speed Internet Modem to the Wall
If your High-Speed Internet modem will be the only device connected to the wall jack, then it can be plugged in without a filter. Otherwise follow the appropriate set of instructions below for the filter you have used. If you have questions, please contact our Internet Help Desk.
A.) Use the following instructions to connect the High-Speed Internet modem to an inline filter:
- From the previous section, the phone cord for the telephone should be connected to the PHONE port of the filter and the filter should be plugged into the wall jack. Connect one end of the enclosed Phone Cable to the DSL/HPN or port of the filter.
- Connect the other end of the enclosed phone cable to the LINE port of the High-Speed Internet Modem.
B.) Use the following instructions to connect the High-Speed Internet modem to a wall mount filter:
- From previous section, the phone cord for the telephone should be connected to the PHONE port of the filter and the filter should be plugged into the wall jack. Connect one end of the enclosed Phone Cable to the DSL/HPN or port on the side of the wall filter.
- Connect the other end of the enclosed phone cable to the LINE port of the High-Speed Internet Modem.

Connecting Your Computer or Router
If you are planning to plug in a router you will want to consult its installation instructions for further advice at this time.
- Connect one end of the Ethernet Cable to the Ethernet port on your computer or the Internet port for your router. Consult your router’s manual for the proper port.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to Ethernet port on the High-Speed Internet modem. This port may also be labeled LAN or 10baseT.
- Connect the Modem's Power Supply to a power outlet.
- Connect the other end of the Modem’s Power Supply to the High-Speed Internet modem. If the High-Speed Internet modem has a power switch turn it on.
- Start your computer and continue with the instructions in the High-Speed Internet Configuration Guide. If you have questions, please contact our Internet Help Desk.
Notes:
All of our High-Speed Internet modems will have a jack for its power supply, the telephone cable, and the Ethernet cable.
The Ethernet Cable looks similar to the Phone Cable but has a larger end and has more metal pins. It is used to connect your computer’s network card and the High-Speed Internet modem.

High-Speed Internet Installation FAQ's
Why doesn’t the Ethernet cable fit into my Computer?
This is because the computer you are hooking the High-Speed Internet modem into does not have an Ethernet card installed in it. To have an Ethernet card installed you will most likely want to contact a computer repair shop. For recommendations, please contact our Internet Help Desk.
Will I be able to use the Telephone while I'm on the Internet?
Yes, as long as the filters are installed properly.
Why do I need the High-Speed Internet filters?
High-Speed Internet filters eliminate interference between the simultaneous transmissions of high-speed High-Speed Internet service and regular telephone service over your standard phone line. The filter allows only the voice signal to pass through to your phone, answering/fax machine and other analog devices, while the data signal passes on the High-Speed Internet modem. This is why a filter is needed for all telephones and other non-High-Speed Internet voice/data devices that connect to the phone line.
Does the High-Speed Internet modem need to be plugged into a filter?
If your High-Speed Internet modem will be the only device connected on the phone jack, you do not need to use a filter. Any other device will need a filter.
Can I plug two telephones into one filter?
Yes, you can plug a filter into the jack on the wall, then plug a normal phone line splitter into the jack on the filter labeled PHONE. Then plug your phones into the normal phone splitter. Do not use the jack labeled DSL/HPN for any device except the High-Speed Internet modem.
Why do I hear static or noises on the line now that I have filters plugged in?
It is most likely the High-Speed Internet’s signal is not getting properly filtered out. This can be caused if a device is not properly plugged into a filter or if a filter is bad. Try the following experiment:
- Unplug everything using a wall jack except the filters and the High-Speed Internet modem.
- Make sure for every device there is a filter. Remember that the High-Speed Internet modem doesn’t need a filter.
- One by one plug everything back into the PHONE jack of the filters until you hear the static on the line. The device that was plugged in last will need a working filter.
- If you still hear static or need filters, please contact our Internet Help Desk.
